Public art consultation

The Kingsford Smith Drive upgrade will reduce traffic congestion and improve safety, but it is more than just a road project. It will also create an entry statement to Brisbane, transforming one of the city’s most significant routes into a vibrant urban corridor with the Brisbane River as the centrepiece.

Public artwork is being commissioned and installed to encourage residents and visitors to explore this well-known but less
frequently visited reach of the river.

One of the key pieces of artwork to be included is a series of art beacons. The art beacons will be designed to maximise public
access to the river and create wayfinding markers to encourage exploration and make it easier for visitors to move around the local area.

The artwork will comprise sculptural forms that may include programmable lighting as well as some beacons designed to incorporate climbing plants.

Clusters of these beacons will be positioned at key locations and public spaces, including Cameron Rocks Reserve, Bretts Wharf and along the new Riverwalk structure.
