Current changes and closures:

Changed traffic and pedestrian conditions – Racecourse Road to Seymour Road, Hamilton

In mid-October 2019, works will begin to upgrade the centre median of Kingsford Smith Drive between Racecourse Road and Seymour Road, and are expected to continue until early 2020.

To accommodate these works, outbound vehicles will be moved onto the newly-constructed northern lanes of Kingsford Smith Drive. Additional signage will be installed to help motorists navigate through the work area.

Activities to be completed in the centre median include traffic signal installation, kerb and median installation, pavement works, drainage works and landscaping.

To facilitate these construction activities, the right turn into Harbour Road from Kingsford Smith Drive will be temporarily closed for the duration of these works. A temporary U-turn facility will be installed at the Kingsford Smith Drive and Northshore Way intersection for outbound motorists to access Harbour Road during the construction works.

The pedestrian crossing at Harbour Road will also be closed for the duration of these works. Pedestrians can cross Kingsford Smith Drive at the signalised crossings at Racecourse Road and Northshore Way.

In the event of wet weather or unforeseen circumstances, this timeframe may be extended to allow the work activities to be completed safely.

Please see notification for more information regarding traffic changes and detours.

Major weekend traffic changes – October and November 2019

To enable pavement construction on Kingsford Smith Drive between Breakfast Creek Road and Toorak Road, major construction activities are required.

To reduce the impact and duration of ongoing night work on local residents, the project team will undertake construction of new pavement over weekends in October and November 2019.

Traffic changes on Kingsford Smith Drive and lane closures at the Cooksley Street intersection will be required on the following weekends:

7pm Friday 18 October to 5am Monday 21 October 2019
7pm Friday 8 November to 5am Monday 11 November 2019.

During these periods, Kingsford Smith Drive will be reduced to one lane next to the work areas between Breakfast Creek Road and Toorak Road, with two lanes maintained in each direction during peak times on Saturday (10am to 3pm).

Significant delays are expected and motorists are encouraged to allow additional travel time or seek alternate routes, where possible.

Cooksley Street access
To enable pavement construction, access to Cooksley Street at the Kingsford Smith Drive intersection will be closed in both directions from 7pm Friday 18 October to 5am Monday 21 October 2019.

Access to Kingsford Smith Drive from Cooksley Street will be closed from 7pm Friday 8 November to 5am Monday 11 November 2019. Access to Cooksley Street from Kingsford Smith Drive will be maintained for outbound motorists.

Please see notification for more information regarding traffic changes and detours.

Temporary road closures – Crescent Road and Grays Road, Hamilton

To enable the installation of major underground public utility services on Crescent Road and Grays Road, temporary closures are required at the intersections of both Crescent Road and Grays Road with Kingsford Smith Drive.

These works require major excavations and significant work underneath the road surface of both Crescent Road and Grays Road. The temporary closure of these local roads allows the project team to achieve greater productivity and carry out most of the works during the day, minimising the impact of consecutive night shifts on local residents.

Updated – Temporary road closure – Crescent Road

Crescent Road will remain closed to traffic in both directions at the Kingsford Smith Drive intersection until mid-September 2019.

From mid-May 2019 for approximately four months, works will be carried out to upgrade the northern verge of Kingsford Smith Drive between Agnes Street and Toorak Road.

Activities to be completed on the northern verge will include drainage works, installation of new pavement, kerb, and underground services, works on private properties, reconstruction of driveways and landscaping.
